2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Narvik Black
Knocking from the rear when pulling away..

Please can anyone help.
I’ve got a 2009 auto
Yesterday when pulling away there was a knock / clonking noise from the back end.
I’ve heard it a few times today although it doesn’t do it all the time and when at normal driving speeds you can’t hear anything at all.
Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers
Dan

Have a look at your vibration dampers situated on the coil springs. The weight should be fixed in the centre. If its free to move up and down they have broken and will cause a clunk. If that is the problem, they are easily fixed by taking them off and aralditing (other epoxy two part adhesives are available!) the weight to the centre of the shaft. Both mine have failed some years ago, now araldited and no more problems.

I’ll have a look but it sounds more like drive train. Can you see the vibration damper from outside the vehicle or do you have to take the plastics off inside the boot

Cheers

Just look in the wheel arch. The vibration damper is attached to the spring level with the top of the wheel. They do make a very noticeable clunk if they are not working.

In lock it could be the Haldex. They need a service much more than the 10 years as set by JLR. Rolling Eyes FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current
