Help with Freelander 2 Cross Bars LR002417

Hi all - first time poster here!

We picked up our first FL2 yesterday with roof rails, and the seller gave us the genuine land rover black cross bars too - part no. LR002417. He didn't have a key and said they didn't lock as he used a screw driver to fit them. I've had a good google and search on here to try and figure out if these are the anti-theft lockable ones? The 'lock' on the top does not have a key code so i assume it does not need a proper key. From what ive seen online they originally came with a special tool for fitting but sadly i dont have that.

Ive searched the forums here but cant find the answer i need. Can anyone advise if these can be locked or should i stick with my thule bars and footpack? As i dont want them to get pinched from the car. Some grote nicked the rubber strips from my thule bars last week!

Thanks!
John.

Hi
You can buy a tool on ebay for a pound or so.
You will need a hexagonal or 5/6 side star bit which is hollow.

Like this - will check when I get home.

Ok great thank you. So can i assume that unless a thief carries one of these bits on his person then they cant be removed if i left them on the car?

Think the average thief might have a pack of alan keys,
so you should be OK.
I leave mine on all the time - plus they don't fit any other car apart from FL2.

Am sure they are either a TX20 or TX25.

Hey Suckfish i found a set of those star bits in the workshop at work but sadly the security hole in the middle is too small.

I was literally about to order those you suggested off ebay when i stumbled across this:

Land Rover Cross Bar Fitting Tool. So ordered myself one up Thumbs Up
