Vibrating steering wheel

Hi,

I have a 2009 HSE and at 60 mph on the motorway the Steering wheel rocks a little. Has anyone got any ideas what the cause could be? At 70 plus the movement in the steering wheel stops .

Thanks in advance.

As above, but first I'd check the wheels are bolted on correctly. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

had the same problem myself for about a year, its not much but its there, got a completely different set of wheels on now and like the first set they are balanced, and the problem is still there.

My next step if I can be bothered is to get the 4 wheel tracking checked 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

As you have only just acquired your FL2, ask the garage or previous owner, to fix it or at least advise if it is a long standing problem. Did you get any paperwork with car, has it been reported before to garage. Also you can check previous MOT faults on line at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

If you are asking if steering vibration is normal with a FL2, then the answer is no. The FL2 cruises nicely at 60 - 70 mph.

The vibration at anywhere between 45 - 55 mph (on 13 inch wheels) was always wheel balancing, and I guess that the bigger the wheels, the higher the resonance speed will be.

Edit --- Just thought if its not balancing, could it be a damper or worn steering/suspension joint. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Could be wear on a steering component or could be wheel balancing. You need to have it checked out as these do not wobble at any speed when kept in good order. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I take it you've got oem wheels fitted and not aftermarket?
In generic pcd aftermarket wheels, the central core could be larger than the hub core.
This can cause wheel wobble and is generally cured by adding spigots. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

my car came with the standard LR HSE wheels, noticed a slight wheel wobble at 55-60mph, had the wheels refurbed and they were balanced as part of that deal, wobble still there but its not serious. Whistle

I swapped the 18" for 19" LR HST alloys, so, totally different wheel and tyre, again balanced, still slight wobble at same speed, and no wobble at lower or higher speed.

ANYWAY it doesn't bother me that much I was just hijacking the other lads post and saying I suffer what sounds like a similar problem. So in my case its definitely NOT wheel balancing. Thumbs Up

Definitely a wobble not as Andy calls his vibration, had this many years back with other cars, still think tracking. 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

As you say, this is how it used to be done, but I don’t remember any problems getting mini, maxi(!), Saab or LandRover done that way, so surely it can’t just be the presence of a drive shaft that made this die out? I guess, though, that everything is manufactured to much better tolerances nowadays, so in most cases there is no need to use wheel balancing to counteract imbalances elsewhere in the drive train or brake discs. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Check your front CV joints. Jack each wheel up and feel for play at each end of the half shaft. We had something like this and one inner CV had failed due to water getting into the rubber boot and screwing up the grease. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
