As per the title, I’m just wondering if anyone has done it and how they found it. Me, SWMBO and her dad are planning on going up in June. In terms of gear, I’ve got pretty much everything. Proper walking boots, waterproof clothing should the weather turn etc. That being said, if the forecast is bad we won’t do it.

If it’s June, more likely to need sun cream.

If you intend to walk across the top a compass is a must - it's flat, featureless and boggy and very easy to miss your aim point. Even with care I once managed to miss the Downfall completely and end up at Fairbrook. Similarly, check your compass when coming back down. It's easy to head off down the wrong track and end up miles from your start point. I'd hesitate to do it in fog or low cloud. Other than that, it's a grand walk! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Thanks for the input, I’m looking forward to it. Do you think it’s necessary to invest in hiking poles? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It depends how your knees are? They say they reduce the load on your knees by 20% Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

Not done Kinder Scout but do a lot of hillwalking in Scotland and I invested in walking poles last year and I have to say they have been great for me. I onyl use them on the steep ascents and descents but they are great for taking weight off your knees and generally making you feel more stable on loose and rough ground, especially if you are carrying a heavy pack |
