Why dealers are so expensive

Saw this in the local paper, apparently Westover are spending around £12m on a showroom and service centre. Presumably if they don't do this they will lose their franchise. The premium brands seem to be going a bit OTT these days. There is a huge new Audi centre in Poole. Now I wonder who is paying for all this ultimately ? Smile

It’s a brave move to commit that kind of expenditure in the hope of the income to pay for it.

I don’t think anyone will deny that JLR need an expansion of service capacity and as ever, they can charge what they like per hour to pay for it, but we can always go elsewhere. However, an expansion in capacity can only help the supply side of the supply-demand balance.

Dealers must hate it when manufacturers hold the sword of Damocles over them with the threat of franchise removal. We’ve lost so many Franchises here in Devon and Cornwall as they’ve all been wiped out by the sizes of investment demanded and the monster that is Vospers (who seems to suck in just about everything).

Bought my car from Listers in Droitwich - the facility was out of this world with Italian marbled bogs and fancy fittings coupled with hot and cold receptionists plying you with coffee or soft drinks. Acres of space to show off the entire Jag and LR offerings and a huge service centre including body shop.In the meantime independent M J Fews of Charfield Glos lost their franchise but at least still retain the servicing franchise. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Drove past the Landrover dealership in Canterbury today. The site is totally boarded up and major construction going on. Looks like another mega showroom under construction. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

New Taunton landrover/Jaguar showroom and workshop opening in June looks very posh,no doubt reflected in the labour rates! Shocked

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

In Bristol LR and Jaguar have sites which are well separated.
However, for at least a year or so, we have been told that they are moving to a new large combined site just off the M5 on the regional retail park.
If nothing else it will solve the overcrowding and parking problems on the existing LR site. (if and when it happens) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

We recently took my wife’s Mini to the local BMW/Mini franchise. Part of the site was closed off, building work everywhere. Why , what’s wrong with it as it is I asked reception? If we don’t do it we lose the franchise was the reply. So, not just JLR. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto
