Have a 2010 auto on 90k

In your guys experience how reliable is the auto? Love the car but it's playing on my mind that at the age and mileage she could go soon. I know the previous owner and they had it for 4 years and did mainly motorway miles.

First LR2 so not much idea on the longevity.

My one made it to 132000miles but they seem to be quite reliable.

mines on 109,000, it is a i6, don't know if it's the same box, if it is it handles 232bhp well enough. Common sense isn't very common.

Mine is same year as yours. Presently 85K. I did an ATF change at 74K and plan to do another this summer. LR say 150K. Other marques with similar boxes recommend as low as 40K between ATF changes. You choose.

I notice this is the second post you have put up regarding the auto gearbox so I would advise that you first carry out the recommendations given so far, especially the one about having the ATF changed and see how your box performs after that.

My vehicle is a 2007 MY and had 82,000 on the clock when I bought it, a few months later the whole box failed but was repaired by the supplying garage after some lengthy negotiation. My mileage is now 124,000 and I have only had the vehicle 18 months, I currently drive over 1,000 miles a week, despite the initial issue with the gearbox I never get into my vehicle and worry about whether it will get me to my destination, it performs without issue week in week out. I had a gearbox oil change about 2 weeks ago, carried out by an independent and he reported that the oil was still a nice red colour and there were no particles in it.

The moral here is that if you are going to allow yourself to worry about the "what if's" then you would be better off buying a new car with full manufacturer warranty. Any vehicle, regardless of age can throw it's toys out the pram it's just the nature of the beast. The only time I generally change my vehicles in when all confidence in them has been lost, my current Freelander is a long way from making me feel like that.

My last FL2 had 240k miles on the clock when I sold it and although the auto box was working fine it developed a whine towards the end of my ownership - it didn't seem to worry the next owner though. Cheers,

Our FL2 auto had 185,000+ miles on the clock when we sold it (mistake).
Originally I believed that the gearbox was sealed for life, so ignored the oil for over 100,000 miles, did a partial change at 150,000 and a full change at around 170,000 - way too late.

Mainly motorway miles, but towing a caravan around Europe (Spain, S.France, Germany), and how can I put this, drvn off road quickly. Also towed much larger vehicles out of ditches.

Towards the end the gearbox was starting to skip gears when abused - think 1400kg caravan over mountain passes at high speed (fine at 50mph).

So treated with some respect (ie change the oil every 75,000 miles) then 250,000 miles should be comfortable, don't change the oil, and do racing starts (foot on brake, hold at 2000rpm, then floor accelerator while releasing brake) and I am sure you can kill one in 150,000 or less. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
