EGR sensor A circuit low error P0405, P0403

Hi,

So yesterday, 150kms into a 500KM return journey I suddenly don't have any power above 2000 rpm, and the car wont rev past ~2500 rpm. I figure the car is in limp mode, but I don't have any messages or warnings on the dash.

So skipping all breaks I head home at 90kmh. Plug in my OBD dongle and I have the above errors.

Today I pop by my father's place for some advice. He goes under the car, fiddles with the EGR valve, and it moves freely, so it is not clogged. He can also see it actuate as I start the car. Suddenly the car is not in limp mode anymore.

So he figures that the plug might have gotten loose, or dirty. He manages to unplug it(what a mission!), we put some contact cleaner on, re plug it, and it is still out of limp mode, so YAY it is fixed!

After some coffee, I head home and after the first bump in the road, LIMP mode!

I'm inclined to think that the plug might be loose, or not properly replaced, but requires ramps and the bashplate to be removed, so I cant check myself.

Has anyone else experienced this? I hope this helps someone else in the future.

Could be a break in the wire to the plug as it seems that when the plug was removed/refitted the problem went away until you were driving again. Vibration and the bumpy road may be causing an intermittent connection maybe?

Okay, so the thing fiddled with initially was some other valve on the left hand side of the engine near the turbo.

We found the EGR valve(it was making clicking noises every second or so.), cleaned the contact. Still had limp mode.

Waited for the valve to stop clicking, unplugged it, and now I am out of limp mode. My car performs well again!

I do get error P0409 when I scan for them, but no errors or warnings on the dash.

Any downside to not having it plugged in?
