United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver
restricted performance messages

I have a 2013 td4, and only had it a month. Over the past few weeks I have been getting "restricted performance" messages that clear when the engine is switched off. Got the codes checked and the came up flow on the turbo.

I went to an independent land rover garage last Tuesday and they ruled out split pipes, and confirmed that the most likely problem is the turbo. So I have come to terms with doing the turbo.

However, over the past few days I have not had a repeat of the message, even though I have been driving it in the same conditions!

can anyone shed any light on how or why it might have fixed its self?

the first thing I did was change the fuel and air filters but that was over 3 weeks ago.

reagrds

These cars seem prone to electrical gremlins Whistle if voltages drop for any reason the systems can generate weird and illogical error codes - there are dozens of threads on here to support that view.
Was your car standing unused when you bought it? It could simply be a symptom of a weak battery (your battery may be 6 years old) - again loads of post on here - with regular use your car has charged up and is now behaving itself.
I would monitor the problem before committing to expensive and hopefully unnecessary repairs/replacements - again numerous examples on here.
I would suggest you have the battery and electrical charging circuits professionally tested and hopefully that will point to the real cause of the errors you are getting.
Good luck and keep us posted on progress. No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Don’t forget that the turbo is a variable vane design. It isn’t unknown for them to get stuck and it might just have freed itself now that the car is being used.

Something that really should be done on a service that will be missed by most garages is to get hold of the Turbo mechanical lever and move many times through its full travel while lubricating it. Not easy to do on your drive at home but possible.

Year 13 cars are also susceptible to EGR unit failures, as soon as engine warms it goes into limp mode and clears when cold. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
