Everyone knows this is being done on a wide scale. Defeat devices are widely available on the internet and it's legal to buy them. It is questionable whether they are illegal if fitted but not in use. So will this programme push the government into some sensible legislation, or will it just encourage more unscrupulous hauliers to use them? A recent case here - but note that the operator was actually using the device: https://www.commercialfleet.org/news/truck...at-devices
and a comment from the regulators: https://www.commercialfleet.org/news/truck...ons-cheats Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months

Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone

Great. Any bad publicity around emissions cheating and enforcement is worthwhile Thumbs Up Let’s not just demonise diesels, let’s hit those that wreck it for the rest of us!

Let’s have one for cars now too.

Tigger, while I agree that more focus needs to be put on the fact that so many vehicles are claiming emissions figures that are far removed from what they actually produce, I fear that all that the public will hear is another “diesels are bad” message. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

17 hgvs left my farm on Friday loaded with food. Without diesel there is no food chain. See the chaos when KFC shut for a few days. Lets wait for a deal alternative until we demonise diesel
Same as insecticides, diesels serve humanity much more than they hurt us. At work

But the rise in petrol car sales is causing a rise in CO2 levels
Euro 6 diesels can be as clean as petrol but burn 30% less fuel !

2017 UK registrations figures published by the SMMT showed new car CO2 rose for the first time in 20 years while latest Jato Dynamics data shows average CO2 emissions in Europe increased by 0.3g/km in 2017; the first rise in 10 years

It should be fairly simple . If a Large Goods Vehicle has been fitted with any form of “ cheat “ be it emissions , tacho, or speed limiter bypass , the “ competent person “ should be stripped of their CPC for life . The operating license for the haulier should then be removed permanantly . There is no excuse , period . Operators meeting all of the regulations should not be at a disadvantage v unscrupulous outfits who lower their variable costs by operating illegally . In fact I’d even go a stage further , the drivers of the trucks are fully aware that they are operating illegally too , and if they are willing to flout the law they should face sanctions as well .,

Are we going to follow that on to all the tractors that have had the system removed by the deals after the warrants have ran out. Have a talk to the fitters in the workshop at your local deals, may be now not so forthcoming as they used to be. Every one seam to think it fine to bypass the system on there engines

A transport manager who admitted AdBlue cheat devices had been fitted to multiple vehicles on his instructions has been banned from the industry indefinitely.

Eric Nicholson, who is also a director of Cockermouth transport firm EW & PA Nicholson, said he had made the biggest mistake of his life in arranging for someone to fit the devices to his firm’s vehicles.

Nicholson’s actions led industry regulator, Simon Evans, to disqualify him indefinitely from acting as a transport manager. He was also banned from holding or obtaining a licence to operate commercial vehicles for five years.

In a written decision issued after a public inquiry last month, the Traffic Commissioner for the North West of England said this was as serious a case of the deployment of AdBlue emulators as he had come across so far.

“The extent of usage in terms of the number of vehicles to which devices have been fitted, coupled with the length of time that the operator was prepared for this state of affairs to continue is alarming,” said Evans.

“It is manifestly the case that Eric Nicholson has conducted himself in a wholly disreputable manner, showing disdain for the regime.

“The loss of his repute as a transport manager is accepted as being beyond any argument.”
