Speaking as an MOT tester, I can’t see how they are going to do that.

Well, they seemed to be able to fit unobtrusive DPFs on trains years ago

That’s very interestingly worded, considering that what they are suggesting will mean that their customers will be committing an offence as soon as it’s driven on a public road. |

Plenty of people out there offering software removal of DPF as well as physical removal or disabling. But MOT testers are never going to be able to pick up on that in the real world, they don't have the time and/or equipment to test.

Are there really owners that aren’t bothered about wrecking pollution control equipment, purely on the basis that they don’t believe they are going to get caught? As each and every one of us and our families need to breath, it seems to be in our own self interests to keep this stuff working.

My lad and all his mates have all had at some time a " decat" of their vehicles , courtesy of some clown who thinks he is living a part in " Fast and Furious 99 " or whatever the latest release of spotty youths car porn is. Apparently the MoT aspect relies on sticking the emissions probe up the exhaust of a "donor " vehicle |

Still can’t see them coming up with a workable solution. All they will say at the moment is that they are thinking of adding another RfR (Reason for Refusal- failure to you and me) of 'obviously modified’. That’s a joke. Many people cut open a DPF, clean it or replace it and re-weld it. Obviously, some just remove them but.....who is to say whether there is one inside? You cannot fail what you cannot see and there are quite a few cars that have undertrays where you cannot see anything. You can be sure that that will be challenged on day one if it ever comes out. Would you like your car failed because it has a weld on the DPF that the MOT tester didn’t like the look of?

Quite simply, yes. When I had my modified BMW 330D (exhaust system left as standard I might add) there was a lot of chat on Beemer sites about performance exhausts, cat-back exhausts , down tubes and DPF removal - all to up the power output. The DPF being seen as a major obstruction to gas flow. Jules |

It is interesting reading the comments on the MOT tester’s Forum. They certainly have a heck of a job determining if a DPF has been destroyed or not. Some complain of being targeted for this, yet when they make complaints about companies blatantly offering this service to end users, nothing is done.
