The only special tools required is the timing pin set that locks the crankshaft and helps set the camshaft timing. It can be bought for around £25 or so on Ebay. The Freelander timing belt is very straightforward to change and there is plenty of room to work on the engine. The 2.2 engine is fitted to a lot of different vehicles so perhaps try a Peugeot/Volvo or Ford specialist that should have the tools needed. |

Thanks for the reply. According to my local garage, the 'special' tool would cost a few £100's!

See ebay item no eBay Item No. 152896337255 as an example of what's needed. Its a lot cheaper than buying the timing kit which is listed specifically for the Freelander! No connection to the seller! |

The special tool and overinflated prices are a scare tactic from someone who doesn’t want to do the job !!
