Anyone know what is the best oil to top up the oil with ? Pneumatic oil maybe ? As begger all info with it regarding oil. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Get a litre of long life compressor oil from Machine Mart, Bob . Also if you are going to use any air tools , get a litre of Air Line oil as well . You don't have to go to the trouble of installing a filter / oiler in line , you can buy little plastic oiler fittings to add just before the end fitting and remove it when your not using tools . . What you might find ( and I've got a compressor of a similar size but I think a slightly bigger tank ) is that the lines you get with the kit could be 6mm , to get any decent tool running you will need a larger diameter 3/8" hose so that you have sufficient flow as well as pressure , then you'll find that you will quickly exhaust the tank as the volume they hold isn't great . I've put a Y shaped adaptor coming off the tank, one side feeds a 3/8 hose with a decent quality tyre inflator ( that cost more than the compressor Rolling with laughter ) and a wheel nut gun . The other side feed 6mm curly hoses for blow guns and such .

As above Machine Mart is your friend for all manner of fittings etc, every so often Aldi and Lidl do a retractable air hose reel which is great for the Tyre stuff.


Ps , make sure you've exhausted the tank before you decide to drain water from it, if you don't it's quite a shock Whistle 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

You would be amazed how many dentists buy this rubbish and then treat patients, we removed one from a surgery about 5 weeks ago, the tank split where the handle is welded to it.
As for oil ... it doesn’t have any, they are oil free

Correction, it is oil lubed, don’t use it for tyres without filters! Years ago in an emergency we used olive oil in lubed compressors, failing that google ‘Jun Air oil’

Are you talking about a water trap or some other type of filter Taz ? It has a pre compression small air filter from new. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Hi Bob , I think Taz is saying that “ oily “ air isn’t good for your tyres , the oily air could be a result of the compressor lubricating oil . When you drain the air receiver of condensate you might find traces of oil with the water . I doubt if this would ever be an issue for you given that in real life if you check you tyres once a week and add a bit of air you will be lucky if you are drawing air out of the tank for more than 10 or 15 seconds per tyre . I certainly have had zero issues in 12 years of car and motorbike tyre inflation , and can’t see any reason that I ever will . If you need to use an air tool which needs lubricating as i said use an end of line oiler between your hose and the tool so that the tool lube which runs at total loss doesn’t contaminate the whole line . I can’t remember the last time I had to put oil in my Clarke compressor, and that’s because these things don’t get used for continuous duty , they are just a convenience that you will use infrequently in cycles of seconds Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

'The air flow that is stated in the compressor specs, is most of the time Nl/s (or S cfpm), which means “Normal liters per second” (or standard cubic feet per minute). It means that the values are given at standard or reference conditions, which are 1 bar, 20 degrees Celsius and 0% relative humidity.

Often, the flow is stated as FAD, which means “Free Air Delivery”, which means the same thing: calculated back to reference conditions (more or less atmospheric air, like you and me breathe).

So in fact, the FAD (Normal liters per second, or Scfpm), is actually the amount of air that is sucked in by the compressor per minute.

It is compressed, and then transported through the piping system. So at 7 bar pressure, the liters per minute (without the ‘normal’ ) is about 7 times smaller compared to the normal liters per second.

This difference is so often overlooked; most people don’t know about it and use the wrong terminology (even in compressor specifications sometimes!).'


The 103 L/min stated for the "PKO" compressor is still the input volume, the output volume at 7 bar is only about 15 L/min. Plus the other inefficiencies like water trap, quick connectors, pipe length etc.

Also this Peerless probably only has a 60% duty cycle which will be a lot more than the PKO whatever they say!

I have a couple of air tools still from my day in the trade (was it really 35 years go). So once I get the fittings all sorted my approach will probably be just give the air gun etc a drop of light oil each time I use them via the air intake (not tyre infiltrator). Job sorted.

I will give the compressor motor a oil change after a few hours just for peace of mind so will call into a machine mart when passing sometime.

Will get most use I guess swapping out Winter tyres but still on the lookout for a old tractor or classic at the right money.

This was a dental surgery compressor, nurses ‘didn’t know’ it had to be drained, this model is oil free, just condensation in the atmosphere that had rusted the receiver.
