Portable Tyre Compressor

The portable tyre compressor I have had for a number of years final ‘blew’ it’s last breath. The Swac5 had done its job well over the years.
Just wondered if you guys can recommend a good all round 12 volt unit? One Discovery, gone
Now on third Freelander 2

I had to buy a portable (own brand) jump pack from Halfords a few years ago as a previous car was being an idiot (Vauxhall Zafira.. don't ask!!)

It was about £85 IIRC and has a compressor with build in airline, light, aux charger ports, and detachable jump leads. Suitable for anything up to 2.5L engine heavy duty. Charges from mains and holds the charge for ages. Really good bit of kit.

ARB do a portable single or dual compressor with or without additional tank. The single compressor is adequate for Freelander sized tyres. It draws up to 34.3 amps, dual compressor draws up to 68.6 amps.

My dual compressor with 4 litre tank and moisture trap. http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic30454.html Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

This is similar to the one I got from Halfords but mine is about 4-5 years old now so guessing this is the newest version

http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/gar...led-12v-dc

mine was used to jump start a 2.2 petrol so im pretty sure it was good up to 2.5L engines, rather than the 2.0L for the one above. Guess its down to the specs for the unit whether it can handle a 2.2 Diesel or not.

Or Maplins do this one

Very happy with my Ring RAC600 Digital Tyre Inflator, which I bought based upon many other recommendations.

These Slime compressors have a very good reputation in the motorcycle world. I had one for a while but I lost it when my top loading pannier came open and it leapt out into the Romanian countryside.

But if you want something that is indestructible and is quite often advertised as being used by the Army, then you need this https://metalmule.com/by-product/maintenan...chuck.html
Which is what I bought after loosing the Slime one. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

As above. I have the slime compressor and it works really well. Small neat unit that fits under my motorcycle seat. I believe they have a metal compressor piston which is better than the plastic ones that can melt. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

A review here of a dozen compressors including temperature https://www.4x4australia.com.au/gear/elect...comparison

Whichever compressor you use you might want to put some descent wire on it as they all use too smaller gauge. Calculate the length there & back i.e. the positive & negative total length for the acceptable voltage drop! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
