Overheating Vanity (sun Visor) lights. Anyone heard of this?

Hi to all - new to this forum having just purchased a 2012 Freelander 2. 23000 miles - I love it!!

A weird question but I bought this from a reputable dealer - the car is immaculate inside and out but when I pulled down the sun visor, the light that should be in the head lining is missing - just a hole. Same on the passenger side. I quizzed the sales rep who told me it was quite common for these to be taken out by owners because they are prone to overheating which can mark the sun visor!!!!

The dealership assured me that this would be fixed by their local branch at my convenience but having called in, they cannot find the wires (Which I'd assume would be locatable by poking a finger in the hole) so are suggesting that the headlining will have to come out...

Can any one think of an explanation for this? I am baffled by it!

Welcome to the forum. I have never heard of this before. I cannot imagine why these have been removed. If they were the same as mine, they switch off automatically when the sun visor is in the up position so cannot "overheat" and mark the visor (the visor just pushes the switch to the off position). Very strange. The wires must be there somewhere I think!

Very weird...

My car has its lights in place, with no marks on the visors, and as already said above - the lights turn off when the visor is 'parked'.

It will be interesting if anyone can confirm that it is 'quite common' for these lights to be removed...

PS - Like you - I've only had my Freelander a few months - what a brilliant vehicle! Currently enjoying:
2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS (SOLD)
2013 BMW X3 20D M-Sport Auto
2007 Jaguar XK 4.2 Coupe

Thank SkyeGuy and Archie98 for confirming my thoughts. I guess the dealership will sort it so it doesn't really matter but its a very odd thing to say / do!

SkyeGuy - Great to hear you're enjoying your Freelander - I had the freelander 1 originally but changed it when the mileage started getting too high about three years ago. I've missed it ever since and have been thinking about and saving up for a freelander 2. Finally got it and it is brilliant - what an upgrade from the previous model.
