Could anybody advise if the rear main oil seal is covered under the Land Rover extended warranty? Recent service showed a leak between the engine and the gearbox. One Discovery, gone

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. I recently had a driveshaft oil seal replace under the extended warranty so oil seals are covered. Just phone up any dealer and ask them. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

i would say it should be covered, the dealer will say that they will charge around £50 + vat for the inspection if its found not to be covered, but I doubt you will have any issues.

This was picked up at recent service, the technician obviously felt it warranted a mention and videod the leak.
Been in touch with main dealer, who state the seal does fall into a warranty situation, but only when it gets 'bad'.
According to them, it is not serious enough to replace at present, but I have to let them have another look in a months time.

dealer seems to be hoping it will go away or you will forget

if oil is leaking out (no matter how badly) then debris is getting in and could potentially damage other components.

I think what the dealer may mean is that they hope it gets worse so they can replace more parts under warranty, and claim more money back as the warranty company will only allow reduced labour charges instead of the usual standard high LR labour charge. The dealer recoups some of the lost labour charge by adding low cost parts to a big job.
