United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
What price can I realistically expect?

I’ve just been offered a new job with company car so it looks like I may have to sell my beloved Freelander 2. I was wondering if anyone had any recent experience of what price I could expect for a 2008 (08 ) TD4 HSE in black with 10k miles on the clock? Looking at the prices on Autotrader i think i'm going to take a big hit!

Instead of the Company car, ask for extra salary instead to compensate (thus avoiding the company car tax liability), then claim back company miles at the maximum allowed (think IR say its 40p for first 10K then 25p after),
It is generally, as an employee, not worth having a company car these days, and as you already own a reliable economical car, you avoid taking the "hit" as you say, on selling your FL2. You should be better off all round. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Can you not swap the company car for a car allowance?

That way the company pays the same, but you get the cash?

Your milage rate becomes less for claimed back fuel, as you are only claiming for the fuel, not for wear & tear.

I thought that most companies allowed this these days, that's not to say all. I also thought that this would be less work for your company, so they may be happy.

Unless of course you're getting a very nice new car, and are happy to swap.

Rich

Car allowance is an option but no 4WD vehicles allowed due to fuel costs.

even with the fuel economy of the FL2 Rolling Eyes

Do your company car admin team wear bobble hats and have copys of Countryfile playing on there monitors

Even then soft roader CRV does 40+ mpg

Get a sporty car that does 18mpg then to Censored them off Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just what I was going to say. How many petrol engined, or even diesel engined large executive cars do less mpg than the FL2.

I guess if you're getting a new job it isn't the time to start an argument, but it would be fun.

You could start by asking them if you can buy an Audi quattro, or a Subaru. And take it from there Laughing

A good way to get a broad picture of values is to go onto Autrader.co.uk and put in a search for Freelanders. You'll see a lot of results, perhaps not all that you want to see, and remember these are asking prices, you don't know what deals are done to make the sale. However you'll get a good idea about asking prices. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

I will be in the market for a 12 month old HSE fairly soon, Im just trying to sell my Mondeo ST155 TDCi to avoid being insulted by the local LR dealers. The 08 HSEs seem to be round about 22 -23k, Ive been offered up to 1500 off for no PX.

£22-23k seems the going rate for an 08 HSE, privately around the same as there's very few cars available and you still have peace of mind with warranty factory warranty. It was strange in the car world before the credit mess that some private values were higher than some dealers. Suppose it may be supply and demand for certain vehicles. Phil

I found that by looking at non-LR approved dealers you will get better prices. I got mine from a 4x4 specialist and was a couple of k less than what I could find within the LR dealer network. TD4, HSE, Santorini Black, SS side protection tubes, clear side repeaters, chrome wing mirror covers

You can also get a Glass' trade in price from www.vauxhall.co.uk - I think the link to value your car is under finance

Land Rover are now offering £5k off a new FL2 (ad in Times yesterday). As that's a LR offer I'm sure you'll be able to negotiate additional off from the dealer himself. That makes an HSE around £26k new..... Good if you're buying Thumbs Up , shocking if you're selling Big Cry 08 Santorini Black HSE manual with DAB and privacy glass
