Central locking again

Another cl question. Is it possible to release the tail gate locking when the engine is running? Several times prior to parking in a tight space my wife has gone to get something out of the boot before I parked the car tight up against a wall. Despite pressing the unlock button on the dash, the tailgate would not open until I switched off the engine? Is this normal? A safety feature perhaps ? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Put in Park & press unlock. (don't know about a manual)

Yep it's an auto, that makes sense. I'll try that, thanks. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
