Help me dignose this rear wheel knock from hell

Basically the rear (passenger side) wheel gives a metal on metal knock when I push and pull the rear wheel from the top (only). It only does it when the hand brake is down and when the car is on the ground not on the jack. It is like there is a 1mm give when I shake the wheel. I looked at the tierods and wishbone but they don't seem to be loose. When I shake the other wheel it feels solid but the motion causes the problematic wheel on the other side to make the noise when the car sways.

Ps I took out the rear diff but I used the original CV joints so that shouldn't be an issue.

Any ideas to what I should look for?

I know it sounds basic, are the wheel nuts tightened to the correct torque ?

I had this problem on a Freelander 1 some years ago. It happened each time I went round a corner at slow speed.

Yes they are its the first thing I checked. And actually the noise can be heard on every little road imperfection not just on turns

How are the wheel bearings? I had some odd noises from the front wheel of my motorcycle when the bearing was goosed. I think it's significant that there's no movement when the handbrake's applied. ----------

rear wheel knock

Hi Roltek try the sway bar links if there is a little bit of wear at all they can cause a lot of noise over ripples on the road surface. Understeer when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower how fast you hit the wall.
Torque how far you take the wall with you.

Bearings are ok and swaybar links seem fine too... i think the noise might be coming from the top of the shock. Im quite certain the top rubber mount is worn out or something.....

is it a hard job to replace? can I do it just by loosening the top nuts and jacking up the car or I need to take apart everything?
