Information is power. I can see this gadget being used as a marketing tool

With this they can do everything the nasty insurance black boxes do... but using your mobile data allowance.

Speed, routes, journeys, locations, driving styles everything on top of car data.... I have nothing to hide (apart from a heavy right foot) but I will never subscribe to any form of this unless im forced to by law.

What year is it again? 2017 or 1984 ?

The TV advert shows a Mum and child setting off on a journey and feeling secure that the device will somehow stop them breaking down. I don't know how it fixes punctures. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

or even stops the limp mode suddenly kicking in....

just another gimmick !! (and thousands will fall for it)

I suspect it's just a fault logging device to make diagnosis easier for the patrol to "get you going" without having to plug in the diagnostics equipment. As has been said, it cannot prevent a breakdown or a puncture so has limited use but at a cost to the subscriber.

Similar devices on ebay for less than £4 which plug into OBD2 port and bluetooth to an app like 'torque'

I applied for and got one of these as part of the early testing (wasn't called Car Genie at this point) to use on my Hyundai. Seemed like a good idea being able to monitor any error codes etc.
It was only one I received it was it clear that it also acted as a tracker too so I sent it back to the AA, as per earlier comments I have nothing to hide but don't like the idea carrying a tracker around for someone to know where I go!

I laugh when I see them proudly stating that your personal data is secure and wont be used for anything you don't agree to.

You can bet the AA firewalls can be breached quite easily by the right(wrong) people, and then your personal data and vehicle tracking info sold to the highest bidder.....

On the tracker side of things, if you have a mobile phone, which I suspect almost everyone on here does, then people have access to where you are 24x7 Google monitor Android phones and Apple iPhones, despite claims your data isn't used if you download certain apps it will detail information to you about the area you are in, how long it takes for you to get home, etc, etc. Big brother is already watching us and we are giving them the means by which to do it

If it communicates via your smartphone's data connectivity, how does it report a flat battery in a parked car? ----------

Got a free data plug for my VW Tiguan when I bought it in June.It's just the same as the AA device.It smacks of "Big Brother" to me too.I used it for a couple of weeks until I couldn't log on one day,and now it languishes in a drawer at home.
