Wet brakes

I went through some water and for some reason decided to left foot the brakes to dry them out like we used to have to do with drum brakes - I know that discs don't need it so put it down to old age. I was doing about 20 mph as as I braked the engine power went right down although I did not move my right foot. I assume this is some clever electrickery, anyone know for sure? Everything returned to normal when I took my foot off the brake.
