United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Barolo Black
My Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 XS Project

Today I joined Freelander 2 ownership. I won a 2.2 TD4 XS Manual Freelander 2 on ebay for a very low price.

Turbo has failed, 99999 SRS displayed on the clocks, last mot showed 130000 miles, Very dirty inside and out, didn't even have its number plates on it when I picked it up. Drove it 11 miles home with the turbo howling its Censored off. But no smoke.

Very comfortable and glad I bought it so far.

Needs quite a few jobs doing to it, but looking forward to tucking into this one.

Problems I know of so far...

Turbo.
Passenger Electric Windows not working.
Punctured rear tyre.
Rear handle broken.
Washer bottle not connected to the filler neck.
99999 SRS Displayed on the clocks.

Nothing too difficult to fix. Since it is apparently so dirty, pull it apart & clean it properly.

I plan on cleaning it tomorrow. Just wrapping my head around everything with the cars at the moment as I am working on a Polo, BMW 1 Series and the Freelander 2.

I did run diagnostics, I will post the results later or tomorrow.

This is as far as I got today thanks to all the other stuff going on. Cleans up really well. Discovered today that it is Sumatra Black. Accidentally took a little paint off of the front bumper with the pressure washer Shocked Laughing So tomorrow I will be calling my paint supplier and asking for a couple of cans for it. Needs quite a few jobs doing though...

Expansion bottle has part of the cap stuck in it! I can't see the level properly, so buying a new bottle and cap and doing a coolant flush at the same time.
The drivers wiper blade clips are broken, this flew off as I jet washed the front Laughing
Screen wash bottle neck is not attached to the bottle. Not sure if I need a new bottle or not.
Passenger windows not working.
Turbo howling.
Going to replace the boost hose at the same time as the turbo.
Handbrake does not actually stop the car.
Passenger mirror not folding, adjusting and doesn't even have glass in it.
Dash displays 99999 SRS.
Battery not correct for the car and the connections were loose!
Tailgate handle no longer attached to the car.
Rear wiper blade knackered.

So tomorrow in my lunch break, I will be contacting a few suppliers and getting parts ordered. But the timeframe is looking a bit bleak! In order of what is being sorted in my car collection...

Discovery 2, Damaged gearbox oil cooler pipes, being repaired this week, BMW 1 Series awaiting the FRM module to come back from repair, Discovery 3 front Diff and MOT due, diff already being rebuilt by a specialist, then the 9n3 Polo needs to be looked over as it sounds like a 2cv and can be out paced by a granny on an electric scooter! Then it's a toss up between my Sprinter which has a possible seized turbo as well as the abs ring which is part of the whole hub needs to be done and the SAM needs to be replaced as I can't indicate left at the moment, or I chuck the Freelander up my mates and we crack on this Freelander then the Sprinter. They are at the top of my list Rolling with laughter I want to get the Freelander in use ASAP though. But looking at a 4 week time frame to get all of the above sorted. Got to get the D2 done first though as I need to tow a few vehicles around on my trailer. I am glutton for punishment, but I enjoy working on my cars.

This is the results of diagnostics from the Freelander which I did yesterday.

Here are the pictures from the external deep clean.

The Freelander broke down a few weeks ago, blocking a lane on a busy dual carriage way and nearly ended up being hit, I thought it was going to be catastrophic, but turned out that it was just the crank sensor Shocked So I went picked the beast up today from my mates and finally get to use it as a daily, I gave it a bath on the way home too. It still needs the noisy turb o to be changed but that will have to wait a couple of weeks.

I have also bought some bigger wheels and the HST front bumper trims and a spoiler which I have now painted. Just needs to be fitted.

Today has been crazy busy, 3 cars being worked on almost at one Rolling with laughter

But I had my focus on the Freelander, I have now fitted the spoiler and the roof rails. The roof rails were living hell to fit as 2 of the screws sheered! So they are secured but I wouldn't use them Laughing I have ordered a new fitting kit, but need to get the weird bolts that are in the roof from factory so I can get the sheered bolts out. I am totally exhausted and can't wait for my shower and bed. Then I have to face my long hours at work for the next 5 days.

Been using this beast as my daily for 2 days and it now appears to be leaking diesel from what I believe may be the injector seals Shocked So, parked it up and taking the truck instead tomorrow. Hope that doesn't break down as the thrust bearing is on its last legs in that Shocked Whistle

Running out of working cars again Rolling with laughter

The truck ended up being unusable as it needs a gearbox, so went back to using this for now, Today the HST kit on the front was fitted, door control module and wind deflectors all fitted. I absolutely love how it looks now apart from the wheels.

However although my windows and all my locks work, the passenger windows are now stepping up and down Shocked I tried the reset procedure from the switches, but that made no difference. I am wondering if the replacement module is also faulty, but a little less faulty than the last one? Laughing But right now, just glad that I no longer have to reach over and manually unlock the doors and that I can now at least open and close the windows.

Next weekend, this beast will be going to my mates for the Turbo to fitted though. Then I will be getting it remapped.

My Mum actually thought I bought another Freelander as she didn't recognise this one anymore Rolling with laughter

Been a while since I posted, but it went to a mobile mechanic as the rear brakes packed up and the turbo needed to be replaced, Around 8 weeks passed with promises of the car being repaired for me, and in that time, I quit as manager of a garage and merged my existing business with another business and have been dealing with all of that, I got really angry at it just sitting at the side of the road by this guys house, so told him to pack the parts into the car and leave the key in a safe place, and I went and got it, someone has scraped the rear corner and hit the towbar, someone has scraped the front corner and also damaged the replacement mirror I fitted on the passenger side, and the battery was flat, it took 2 jump packs at the same time to get it started. Now it is back home, had a deep external wash at my new yard and is in daily use as it is. Tonight I plan on replacing the rear brakes, then once it is low on fuel, I will take it to the yard and start stripping the engine down to change the Turbo and will use another Green Oval until this one is fixed. I also bought myself another little project trailer, I was told the wood was rotten, but didn't realise it would fall apart on the way to the yard Rolling with laughter

Rear brakes now done, passenger rear calliper was totally knackered, I bought both rear so the rear had new discs, pads and callipers, regretting not doing the shoes at the same time now, but the car is now safe to drive again, which is great as I have over 100 miles to cover tomorrow.

Starting to feel more relaxed about this car now as it is slowly getting to how I want it. I have ordered the PowerfulUK tailgate handle upgrade that will need painting, I need to do the Turbo, I want to change the rear light too, change the wheels, and I am considering changing the interior to leather, but undecided at the moment.

A little upgrade in the works. It was cheaper to buy the facelift handle from PowerfulUK than it was to get a standard handle, I wasn't convinced of this upgrade until the price pushed me into it, just a little touching up to do before I start the process of drilling holes in the tailgate, but hoping to get this fitted tomorrow.
