Stop Start Conundrum with TD4 or SD4 - Help required

Guys,
After a recent visit to the dark side with an Audi Q5 V6, I have now regained my senses and looking to buy another Freelander 2 as I really really miss my old one.

I need some words of wisdom and guidance though . . . .

I know I want a late model (2012/13/44) with the later style interior - Auto, probably an HSE to give me the Roof/Nav and a few toys. My old 58 reg was a TD4 which I am happy to go back to, but I know that a more powerful SD4 is now also within reach. I do occasionally tow a car/boat behind me and found the Audi was almost uncontrollable with so much power on tap to even consider a towbar, I`m assuming that the higher power SD4 is still OK for this or should I stick with TD4.

My biggest dilhemma though is STOP/START technology. Does the Freelander with an AUTO box have it? or is it just the manual box - I need to know as this would be a deal breaker for me.

I really don`t want it and need to find out before I inadvertantly buy a wrong un.

Any guidance much appreciated . . . .
Oh and if anyone wants a Mega loaded Q5 . . . . .

Thanks

No the SD4 which are all auto by default does not have stop/start.

It will tow your boat with no problem at all as well.

Also the SE tech, Dynamic and XS spec all had all the toys as standard except for pan roof and cold climate pack (heated seats and wimdscreen) although these may be on some as added extras when the car was new.

Good luck with the hunt Thumbs Up

SD4 Auto is a good, and in my own experience, the best engine / gearbox combination and suits the FL2, post MY 13 are the best as the 'Evoque' features arrived.

Lots of the FL2s were supplied fitted with many of the available options, so a close look at any adverts is needed to see what you are getting.

It is worth closely examining an photos, as options and specs are quite often wrongly described. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

I am leaning more and more towards the SD4

What are the "Evoque" features you speak of though? I know the Excellent Alpine stereo was ditched for a Meridian one (not heard that one yet) and the dash was facelifted - anything else?

Am I right that there is a facilty to connect an iPod too?

if you are looking for all the toys on an SD4 then 2013 onwards in HSE spec will give you everything you want except for reverse camera, xenon headlights and posh leather

the Evoque features are the meridian display which is all touch screen based for music, video, phone and satnav, with USB and IPOD, which is a 825W surround system in HSE spec.

The dash also features digital displays which are scrolled through via steering wheel and stalk controls.

The Sd4 EASILY towed a 1.6tonne twin axle caravan from Holland to Spain, up and down the Massive Central. Moving up from a TD4 the prime extra was memory seats; a luxury for him and her with 9" leg difference.

One of my top priorities would be Xenon (HiD) headlamps not the normal Halogen Projector lamps, huge performance improvement which cannot be under emphasised, and no popping bulbs every few months. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

I agree with Boxbrownie. You need Xenons.

One of the worst changes on the MY13 facelift was the change in the Headlight Configuration, when we lost the extra, High Beam, lamps, giving much worse long range illumination.

For many reasons try to find a Metropolis, or HSE LUX. Late models also had TPMS.

Find one with a Spoiler, Mud Flaps, Full Sized Spare Wheel, and Tinted Rear Windows, and you have the full set of options.

I got my Metro after 5 years, trouble free, enjoyable motoring in my near identical MY11 XS SD4.

SD4 would be my next purchase after my TD4 but that is a couple of years away yet, as the prices will soon drop, with all the taxes on diesels hitting hard etc.

More questions guys, and narrowing the search down . . .

So far its an HSE (or Lux or Metropolis) SD4 Auto with facelifted interior - so 2012/2013/2014

After viewing a few cars, I have an even deeper distrust over some of the advertising by the dealers and need some help to identify things before I set out to see them.

Many have advised the Xenon headlights over the projectors - Good call, but am I correct in thinking that the Xenons was still an option here on the HSE, and if so, is there a quick way to identify them from a picture?

Also the Meridian sound system, available in 375W or 825W output - again, any quick way to differentiate between the two ?
