ECU Remapping or "chip" or "tuning" my S

My 2012 FL2 is off warranty and motor plan. It's auto with sport and manual modes. Manual it is nice and fast. sport is ok. regular auto has very sluggish acceleration. it's like grandpa cruising mode. I city drive in Cape Town almost exclusively and so i get terrible fuel consumption. 11.6L /100km or even 12L per 100km

For fun and performance and efficiency, I want to have the ECU "remapped" (quotes because I don't even really know what they'll do). Apparently this gives more horse power, better fuel efficiency, and driving pleasure.

Anyone done any such thing? perhaps a plug-in chip?

The company i want to use are called Wulfchiptegnik and they seem quite legit.

Would love to hear of your experience. Thanks.

Don't know about the remapping but if you wanted more power/speed why didn't you get the i6? Common sense isn't very common.

remapping is probably the better way to go as your out of warranty so that wont be affected.

a decent stage 1 remap could safely take you to a max of about 240bhp/350lb/ft (up from 190bhp/310lb/ft) and maybe give you an extra 4-5 mpg

what you will get is a smoother power and torque delivery, which will make the car feel faster even if its not and a side effect of that may well be slightly better fuel economy.

However you may well be tempted to put your foot down to enjoy the remapped performance so you economy may well go down Laughing

AFAIK there should not be any difference between auto box acceleration in either auto or manual settings. Auto mode however does “learn” your driving style and adjusts to optimum gear changes accordingly. Why not try leaving it in auto and just driving it at your preferred pace for 100 miles or so and see if there is a difference.

Re fuel consumption, no one ever bought a Land Rover for fuel economy. With mine, if I get better than 30 mpg, then I am doing well. Whistle 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I had my 2008 TD4 ECU remapped recently. It was definitely money well spent. The overall smoothness and response has been improved and the bhp raised from 160 to 185. Very noticeable.
I also had the EGR valve electronically shut off, a command done through the ECU.
I can definitely recommend the remap but avoid the plugin hardware type. Derek Hill

There is companies in Germany that sells both HW and SW solutions.
There is no difference in the bottom line.
The HW solution will modified the signals according to compensation map in it while the SW solution will modify base map,
in the end the injectors gets the same modified signal.

The problem with the HW boxes is that there is allot of fakes out there but if you buy it from a company that do flashes as well
you are good to go as the box compensation map was built on a dyno

Thanks guys. Some great answers. Chose the best condition lowest km lr2 I could find with my budget. It was this sd4hse with 80 000km and sold from landrover dealership. Drove attentively to study it and got the diff replaced before warranty ended. Happy, but keen for it to perform it's best.

New problem today may eat up all my budget for non necessities. Think the a.c. evaporator needs replacement.

😣 will post new thread to ask about this.

Thanks for all the replies.
