lifetime cost of motoring according to the Daily Fail

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/arti...often.html

I never knew that a cambelt failure could be so bad

quote

If the cambelt breaks, it can be a costly affair as it can lead to severe engine damage, especially if it whips around the engine bay
unquote

or that storing the car indoors and keeping the cambelt warm and dry would prolong its life.....

WHERE DO THEY FIND THESE MUPPET MOTORING JOURNALISTS ?!?!?!?!?!?! Rolling with laughter

10 clutch's Rolling Eyes Well it is a woman's paper I guess.

Had to replace one so far in 49 years of motoring and that damage would have been done by the previous owner.

Now if they were talking about how much deprecation had cost me Whistle FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

What a load of Censored

Reminds me why I gave up buying papers 35 years ago. Common sense isn't very common.

To be fair, not knowing what they heck they are talking about is not unique to the motoring “journalists” on the Daily Wail.

Quite right, it applies to all Daily Mail journos.

The Daily Mail invented fake news. They didn't know it but they did and quite by the accident of being utter prats.

7 new alternators too Laughing

"... just try to stick to the replacement intervals set by the manufacturer. "

When was alternator replacement ever in the service schedule?

Never seen such a load of nonsense Shocked

The DM’s figures are derived thus:

The top ten car parts were taken from ClickMechanic’s own database of vehicle repairs.
The number of times a part needs replacing is based on the average mileage of each part calculated with an average of 63 driving years for an individual and travelling an average distance of 7,800 miles per year, which is taken from Gov.uk’s 2016 National Travel Survey.
Nationwide costs for the parts are taken from ClickMechanic’s quote engine and are based on a small city car.

I can only assume ClickMechanic’s database is flawed. 491,400 miles and HOW MANY starter motors? 😳
