Do I use new spare pirelli scorpio zero plus 3 new or do I go for 4 new Avon zv7's. Pirelli's circa £130 fitted, balanced etc whereas Avon's circa £107 fitted, balanced etc . Wheel size 235x60x18. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

It is a dilemma, but I guess you are not going to go too far wrong with either option and the money is very close either way

The only thing is that if you go with the Avons, you have, and will continue to have a brand new unused spare sitting in the boot which will eventually be deemed unsafe because it has aged and cracked. It always feels better to me to have an almost fully worn tyre as a spare, but that is probably more an emotional than a logical response!!

I put 4 new Zero's on my car this year, I can't fault them, nice and quiet. The tyres are M+S rated so i will see how they cope if we get any snow this winter. Also they must be a good tyre or LR wouldn't fit them as standard on the Freelanders ? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Scorpions on my DS are great, and were almost faultless on ice last winter. Nonetheless I prefer proper winter tyres and put a set of Wintracs on this year. Personally I'd buy three new Scorpions (this is what I did with my FL2, only with Goodyears).
If you are going for a different make, you might consider buying a similar pattern wheel (usually plenty available unless you have unusual wheels) then using one of your existing worn wheels as spare and selling the brand new wheel and spare. Profit between buying and selling could be around £50? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
