Premature Tyre Sidewall Cracking

Anyone noticed or had problems with premature cracking on their tyre sidewalls in the area near the wheel rim.
In December last year I had to replace two Pirelli Zero’s on my FL due to this, a little disappointed as they were only two years old and had 5mm of tread left.
Just noticed the same issue on the Avon’s fitted to my wife’s Fiesta which has really made my day! All four have a manufacturing date of 3015 so only just over two years old and only covered 16K miles with about 4.5mm of tread remaining.
Tyre pressures are checked weekly and to the manufacturers spec on both cars. Not driven hard or aggressively. In both cases the cracking is / was adjacent to the rim protector so at least the rubber should be slightly thicker in that area.
I suppose the official line is to get them changed at the slightest sign of ageing!

Might be worth contacting Pirelli and see what they say, you have nothing to lose. A few years back I had a problem with a tyre (can't recall the make) and the manufacturer said to take it to a garage for inspection and at the end of it I got an allowance against a new tyre. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Thanks for the replies gents.

Worth a quick line to Avon tyres to see what they say.

I keep all receipts etc. for anything I spend on all the family cars as part of the service histories so should be able to support any communication to the manufacturer with that. I'll try to take some photos this weekend (in the light).

Thanks,

These are my Pirelli’s after 7000 miles on the Audi, as you can see I am enjoying the extra power Laughing
