Hi, for a few months I have noticed some noise coming from the rear of the car, it can be heard most clearly when not accelerating so its not drowned out by the engine noise. I wouldn't say it's loud and certainly isn't annoying. The past two services done by different places, the latter of which is a LR specialist, have mentioned noise - the first said noisy diff and the specialist said N/S/R noisy bearing. In economical terms I'm hoping the specialist is right.

What's got me a bit concerned is my wife was driving home on the motorway with the kids the other day and she said there was a loud vibration sound coming from the rear and found it quite scary. It was intermittent rather than a repetitive pattern and went away after a while during the journey. She managed to get home ok but as it's the family car I'm a bit worried about it being used until it's fixed. She likens the noise to that heard in this YouTube video:

We've used the car a bit since it happened and the noise above hasn't come back, it's just the same noise that's been there for a while again.

I've removed the child car seats, parcel shelf and spare wheel bay cover and put the rear seats down and taken it for a short but strenuous spin and wedged my phone in the boot and recorded a video, would someone mind having a listen and see if you can identify any non-normal noises please?

MY mate who is a mechanic is gonna have a look at it for me next week, but if possible I'd like to know whether we should not be using it until the problem is fixed.

If it is indeed the rear diff then I'll be getting on to Bell Engineering to get one of the improved diffs put in.

Have you tried jacking the car up and seeing if there is any play in the wheels? Grab the wheel top/bottom and left/right and push backwards and forwards to check. Spin the wheel by hand and see how it feels. Also does the sound change (worsen) when you go around a corner?

I have had rear diff, rear wheel bearing and noisy rear tyres and they all sounded the same to me. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
