Intercooler Covered in Oil

Hi everyone,

I am looking for advice. My 2010 (60) Freelander went in for its service this week. It has been running well however I had noticed that it makes a hissing noise from the front whenever I turn the engine off. I have been told that they didn't look at it as it involves taking the bumper off, however the intercooler is covered in oil. Not to worry though as if something is wrong it will simply lose power.

My concern is that I do a lot of motorway driving, without wishing to sound pathetic, the last thing I want is to break down on the motorway in the dark with my 5yr old in the back (I do have AA relay). Should I book it back in for further investigation or as advised simply ignore it?

Many thanks in advance
Angela

Hi Angela and welcome. For your own peace of mind you should get it checked out and repaired sooner rather than later. Waiting until it breaks down or loses power is poor advice. Get it sorted now whilst it is still driving ok as waiting might cost you more or even cause an accident if it suddenly loses power on the motorway. It might be something as simple as a loose intercooler hose. Thumbs Up

I would certainly be checking the intercooler hoses and connections - plenty of posts on here about split hoses - very common fault which can be hard to spot
As AJH5555 says do not leave it to chance - get it sorted
BTW I would be looking for another garage - ask on here for details of reliable ones in your area No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Hi, I have a similar issue with oil from the drivers side below the radiator, i believe it could be the intercooler hose. How much oil should be in this hose ?

You could take the front bumper off and have a look, videos on Youtube of how to do it and last time it took me about 25 mins. Once in then access to the intercooler is easy. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
