2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Sumatra Black
Can anyone identify this?

Does anyone know what this bit of brass is? I found it inside the air hose just before the Throttle Body valve.

That look like the pivot bar of an old fashioned throttle butterfly flap No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Could be swirl flaps spindle in inlet manifold, but I hope not.....

It does look as though your swirl flaps have broken up. (photo from online)
I would remove and check everything from the throttle body back for debris, the car will still run without them but the optimised torque point may be changed.

Thanks guys, great spot. It's definitely from the swirl flaps.

Also found another thread which describes finding an "8cm bronze bar" in the intercooler pipe - snap!

I do wonder how long it has been there - I found it only whilst doing some other work - and what has happened to the flaps that were once on that bar... One of the other threads suggests the flaps could have melted in the cylinder chamber!
