Land Rover buyers changed. These days the typical LR buyer wants a car for the school run, not a 4x4. They're more interested in whether it has heated seats and a dvd player than how it performs off road Sad Shopping in the rain is more for them - that kind of ad would scare them!

Couldnt have said it better myself Bow down Its a shame really one thing I'll miss from about the freelander one is the exterior accessoires as the freelander 2 is SH*T in that dept! No lamp guards, No a frame bar, No driving lamp pods available, No mudflaps..... I could go on..... Guess we have the ex Audi/BMW drivers to thank for that as all they want is luxury Rolling with laughter Just kidding guys Wink MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I'm not one for exterior accessories, I have to admit, but I'd happily trade the heated electric seats, 500-speaker stereo, etc, for a low box and a bit more underbody protection.

One thing which there's no excuse for, though, is the minor oversights like tie-down points in the rear. Have you ever tried securing a load which is hanging out of the back? There's nowhere to tie it to - you have to use the seat latch loops and the rear tow point! And try tieing down the rear door... It doesn't cost anything to get that kind of thing right - even BMW do a better job!

There's plenty of tie down points in the 1! Thats a shame that they have removed them. Im thinking of getting a conversion. I just feel that standard looking the cars are very bland and they all look the same now. As I stated before the exterior accessoires are a let down. I would have loved to have gone down the expedition look however Big Cry MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

You could go down that route if you changed your order to a model without a body kit. Whistle

In all honesty the body kit won me over Bow down I was actually waiting for the replacement 2015/2016 model. If it was not for the Dynamic I would have never placed an order for one. It looks bare without the kit and the rear bumper looks incomplete if you have two parked up together. Land Rover classify rubber mats as an accessory come on thats a necassity Rolling with laughter MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

IMO body kits for Land Rovers should be banned. I can see why LR do it, just not for me.

Though I don't do a massive amount of off road driving I still like my LRs to be rough and tough, I prefer the black plastics on the D3 to the colour coding on the D4 or 'Discovery' as it's now known.

On the subject of the advert then yes that was one of the best along with the 90 climbing up the dam. LR shouldn't be ashamed to produce adverts like that, it's a perfect demonstration of how luxury can mix with the rough. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I remember building the Freelander Club stand in 2005 ?? at Billing, with some merchandise based on the Born Free TV ad.

Very slightly off topic but my 2012 has 4 tie downs similar to the FL1. Factory fitted they are mounted on the bottom of the boot side trim. Thumbs Up

You could still make that advert today in Africa but it would have a Toyota pickup coming out of the back of the truck.

I was in Kenya a few weeks ago and noticed that the few LR Defenders I saw were all owned by safari companies for driving tourists around. Presumably that's what tourists expect, which is in itself interesting and shows the strength of the brand. Pity that LR don't subsidise or promote those activities alongside the rather tame UK off road experiences.

PS I still think that the FL1 looks more like a proper 4x4. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
