Disturbing noise at 1800-2000 rpm

Hi there,

I recently bought a Freelander 2 automatic from 2007. Love the car ... very happy with my purchase, but there is something that bothers me.

At around 1800-2000 rpm he makes a strange noise. A chirping, slipping kind of noise. It looks like it has something to do with changing gears but that isn't the case because when I drive in Sports Mode or Command shift it still makes that sound even when I am not changing gears.

When the engine is cold the noise is gone, but once it heats up the noise gets louder. It last about a second or so ... until the revs drop. And once you reach 40-45 mph the noise is gone as well, so probably when you are in 3d or 4th gear.

My garagist says it 's a common problem with Freelander 2's and it 's a resonance or vibration noise in the engine/exhaust and that I shouldn't worry about it.

So I 'm basically asking if this is indeed a common issue and if there is indeed nothing to worry about.

I hope you guys can help me out here.

Hi tom,
I would look at the drive belts on the engine. We that is jag, used have problems with belt chirp, are they slack(tensioned correctly).
If so replace or buy some belt conditioner and spray them while the engine is idling.
Something to illiminate

Thanks you both for your replies.

@sd42010 It is not really the same problem. As I read the post it's not the same. My car drives amazing actually ... it 's just a bad sound that bothers me.

@Linn I don't see a problem there. They look ok. The car just had a serious service so it would have suprised me that there was a problem.

Your garagist is right. Mine does it too and I'm not worrying as I've seen many others too and those cars are also without problems and drive alright...
