I know what you mean re the bills! I've had mine for nearly 11 years. It's on 161000 miles now, it's cost about £2.5k this year and that's doing a lot of work to it myself including fitting a recon cylinder head last month. But I do still love it every time I get into it. I just realise like you that it's not getting any younger and I'm going to have to change to something newer eventually , maybe another 12-18 months.

Well take went on longer than I thought it would thanks for all the comments. To be fair I've spoken to a few other people who tow large caravans with vw and Mitsubishi and other models of car they seem to be getting about the same 24 to 26mpg then about 32 to 38 on a run. Also as pointed out the td5 disco is now becoming an old car so me and the fl2 just need to get on. To be fair it tows our caravan without fault and its a nice car to drive, as for space I'll just have to get used to it. On the point of it not been a landrover well nearly everything is a vw nowadays. Turn off your TV turn on your brain

I find the FL2 to be much more spacious and comfortable for passengers than my old TD5 Disco 2.... maybe the front seats aren't as armchair like but they are still comfortable none the less. Rear seat passengers certainly get more room in the FL2 than the TD5. The only way passengers lose out is in the headroom space, the Disco has tons more head room but as a consequence was a lot more 'wobbly' than the FL2 due to the higher centre of gravity.

Where you do lose out is in boot space, the Disco (especially with a dog guard fitted) could swallow the entire contents of the house pretty much... the boot is monstrous on them !! But the FL2 (again with a dog guard) can still carry a fair amount of gear.

Also I had to really watch where I was going to park in the Disco, multi storeys were out, as were car parks with height barriers, and the weekend tip run when they have the height barriers to stop the ''travellers'' vans dumping. No such problems with the FL2 unless you have the roof bars and cross bars fitted.

Will be looking to get a dog guard for when the car is loaded for holidays. And to be fair members of the family have commented that its a smoother ride fir then as passengers. Also I did hit 2 height barriers on car parks (in the disco) which I may point out were not 2 meters as marked on them. Turn off your TV turn on your brain

You want to try finding a multi-storey car park in Bordeaux city centre to fit a disco in !

I enjoyed my Disco2 ( adventurer edition ) and was sorry to see it go.

but the FL2 is a step up in terms of comfort, drive ability, and economy.

I always felt driver legroom was an issue and compared to the FL2 the Disco2 was very agricultural.
