I have just changed my Freelander XS SD4 for a Metropolis. This has TPMS.

I would like not only to fit the unused (TPMS) spare 19 inch wheel to the car, but an old (but nearly new tyred) (non TPMS) 19 inch wheel that I bought as a spare for my last car.

I know I can do it if I ignore TPMS failure warnings, but would the car learn a new (6th) valve number if I have it fitted and run fault free?

Simply....the spare wheel TPMS can be turned off so fitting a spare without TPMS sensor can be done. You will need to visit a dealer and ask them to dissable this feature via vehicle configuration in SDD.
Fitting a running wheel without a TPMS sensor will bring up a TPMS fault as the system learns a new sensor or wheel when it's introduced and assigns a location for this new wheel. As it won't find a sensor it will trigger the TPMS failure warning.
Yes, the system will learn the new sensor when the wheel is on, just need to go for a drive above about 25k/hr for 5 mins for learning process to happen. MY15

I'm currently running my DS on Evoque wheels without TPMS. The only problem is the orange warning on the dash. I'll fit TPMS valves when I put the winter tyres on. If your car is set for TPMS on the spare that should show a fault for a non-TPMS spare, but your dealer can reconfigure it to only read the four road wheels. If you put the spare on as a road wheel it will then flash up the fault warning again.
As stated above, the car "learns" the valves after a wheel change, no reconfiguring required on your part if you swap the wheels around. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I will try the non TPMS (almost new) spare on sometime in the next few weeks, together with the cars own TPMS (new) spare.
If the displayed error annoys me, I will buy a Land Rover Approved TPMS valve and have it fitted.

Update - trouble free

I bought a TPMS valve and had it fitted to my (non TPMS) spare wheel I had from my previous Freelander.

The local Tyre Dealer charged me £20 to do this, and to swap this wheel, and my new cars spare wheel, onto the back wheels of my FL2.

I just drove away, and no TPMS warnings have occurred, and after covering about 100 miles everything seems fine.

Cars registered after January 2012 TPMS is part of the MOT.
If the light flashes to indicate a fault its a failure
If the light comes on and stays on without pre-flash sequence its an advise only.

To reduce costs aftermarket TPMS valves( about £30.00 ) that are blank can be purchased and the specialists that have Valve cloning tools can create new codes or clone them over. Jaguar x-type sport gone

Please excuse my ignorance but what happens when you change tyres on a 64 plate se sd4 with tpms - do you have to pay for new valves.

I will need 4 new tyres in the not to distant future so would like to know. Cheers MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

The system will tell you when the tpms valve sensor battery is low with a message in the message centre and showing you the location of the wheel that the sensor is failing similar to the spare tire pressure warning on each ignition cycle and then existinguishing. Tpms fault will only be triggered once the valve battery has completely failed.
Best to try and replace before fault is registered. MY15

I have just had a puncture, three weeks after a new set of tyres. New tyres fitted TPMS was fine.
Fitted spare wheel after puncture TPMS was OK.
Puncture fixed, I was there and warned the tyre fitter it had TPMS and he was careful didn't knock it, TPMS OK initially but after about 8 miles now showing a warning that the TPMS is not detected for that wheel.
Any ideas please?
