2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Loire Blue

Auto Gearbox Oil

Anyone know how often the gearbox oil in the TD4 Auto is meant to be changed?? My mate has told me auto's needs doing on a regular basis, but what is regualr?? As per usual, the LR manual is as useful as a chocolate teapot!! Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the FL2 gearbox auto or manual was "sealed for life" ______________________

I have a pal who is the MD of a auto gearbox maintenance and repair company (Chester Automatic Transmission Centre) who recommends change of oil at 50k miles and has a nice bit of American kit to do it.
They disconnect the flow and return pipes to the gearbox cooler and via two flexible pipes pump out and refill the box at the same time. However it is not a cheap operation with the oil costing somewhere in the region of £8.00 per litre so on my last car (3litre petrol Shogun) it was over £70.00 but well worth it as the original oil was as thin as gnats pee and the gear change was much improved after.

As Chicken George pointed out re changing engine oil more frequently if towing the same logic applies.

Many thanks gents for comments. I'll have to try to get it done in the not too distant future. Don't think I'll get LR to do it though - they like to pluck a figure out of the sky and do uble it!! There is no such oil which will last "for life" in any technical appliance whatsoever.
Mercedes has a few years ealier announced the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) to stay in its (own build)automatic gearboxes for live, but realitiy has overtaken this unwise claim by dozens of break-downs of the otherwise good gear box over the time. Today Mercedes will change the ATF every 60.000 km, and the gearboxes last and last and last.

Hi philsh not so long ago another member posted a maintenance checksheet I think it might have been lr2maker and on that sheet it states transmisson fluid every 10 years or 150,000 along with the rear diff oil npinks might help you to trace the thread hope this helps it seems a long time but i suppose the improvement in oils these days its acceptable 07my Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Baltic Blue,Privacy Glass,Ebony black leather,Land rover detachable towbar,S/S Side bars,Climair wind deflectors,Bramble Rash,
