I would suggest that some dealers have at least 25% mark up, though LR may have incentives not to discount above a certain level and the accidental supply of a higher spec vehicle is more acceptable as an incentive. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

According to a Financial Times article a few months ago the margin on a new car is actually very small and the business is mainly driven by manufacturer bonuses. An analysis of the financial results of one large multi marque dealership showed that they made most of their money on servicing, finance deals and selling used cars.

Only ever bought cars with cash, if this is where it is heading they can get stuffed. I'll simply walk. Then it might be bare feet as they will only rent you shoes! A survey down under found people who buy cars with finance go for more expensive models & more extras. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device! I always used to buy cars with cash but I was offered 6% APR on on the current car and three years ago LR were doing a scheme at 2.5%. Clearly if you are using money from the building society paying 1 or 2% you might as well use that rather than pay 6% but I do a lot of investing and 6% is not hard to beat (over the past few years I have achieved over 20% per year) so it makes sense to take the finance and get a better deal and you can always pay it off if you have the resources available. Remember it's the bottom line that counts. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Over the last week I've flirted with the idea of getting a FFRR. It's interesting how keen my local dealer was to talk me out of buying new and into buying used, marking my car down by £1,250 for every one of the 3 months that I waited for it to be delivered which, oddly, he insisted was £5,000. A sum which he said I would need to produce in full, at time of ordering, as a deposit. I've never given more than £1,000 as a deposit before.

Use CarWow to find a deal , remember though a run out model gets dumped so its worth checking where a model is in its metamorphic regeneration (they were big words for me )
