South Africa 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Nazca Sand
New owner...*waves from a distance*

Lo all,

Should be picking up my first Freelander 2.2D HSE this afternoon. It has 22 000kms and is HSE spec. Is there anything I should watch out for or look for in specific?

I'm keen on mountain biking and will be making a long trip down to the Western Cape on the 13th of December.
Can any of you perhaps suggest any fittings for the Landy so that I can take my two bikes with me...?

Any other suggestion or upgrades are also welcome.

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

Its a bit of a mine fields with different spec in different countrys

So, just make sure your happy with the car, and they haven't missed anything, like the full tank of fuel and complete set of mats. Laughing

There are a few bike racks out there, but since i have a towbar, i really only know those type, MaxxRaxx and Thule do ones which allow you to tilt them and still access the rear boot door.

Clear side indicator lenses are a must around these parts, also, look into privacy glass, as it will keep the cabin cooler

and remember you can hold the "unlock button" down on the keyfob it will open all the windows, to allow the heat to escape, and the "lock" button will close them, BUT NOT the sunroof Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi Shov31
Welcome to the forum and congratulation with your new Freelander. It is an fantastic vehicle and I am sure that you will be very happy with it. I did the top end of the west coast in august this year and had great fun.
Bought the upgrade 2008/2009 DVD for the sat nav and it has a lot more of road info for the "plateland"

I have the LR 2-bike carrier that fits inot the fixed height towbar when needed (hangs on gatage wall when not in use). Very good for the mountain bikes except you cannot open the tailgate with the bike rack in position. Need to plan and have other kit accessible from the rear doors (seats folded or not according to how much to carry).

I much prefer this to a roof mounted bike rack with all the risk of dropping a bike on the roof or poking in through a window on the way up or down! Not to mentined the bettter fuel economy you get without things sticking up into the air.

You may like to investigate a 12v fridge to go in the back. 09MY cars have an extra power point in the load compartment and this is usful for food and drink. Our fridge is a Camping Gaz one that we chill down using household mains then run in the car off the power point and connect to a gas bottle on arrival if staying for moer than the day. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey

Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88

I been thinking of getting a extra fridge for the caravan to go in the awning, not sure whether to run a outside socket or look at one of these Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hey all,

I've been enjoying the hell out of my FL2 the last couple of days. What a car.
I have been looking at some of your suggestions. Thanks for all the feedback.

PWVEN - Where did you buy the upgrade GPS DVD? (and did it come with a female voice? lol)
The current software I have has a very weird male voice, not too far from our own Riaan Cruywagen's .... Laughing

Hi Sh0v3l
I have ordered my upgrade DVD direct from the suppliers as land Rover SA do not stock them, at this address.

The voice is stil the same, but I must look if it cannot be changed in the setup.
Keep on having fun with your new toy.
