Car difficulty in starting, cold weather have changed glowpl

2013 freelander 2

had issues starting cold this winter, previously bullet proof lives in alps.
during visit back to uk last week i had the glow plugs changed, has made no difference at all.

press button glow plug light illuminates delayed crank, cranks over fine just doesn't start.

at -5c it takes a couple of minutes for a very belated start.

cant see any smoke but smells of diesel.

will change relay? but cant find it.

any ideas?

If you have had a tank full of U.K. fuel in the Alps it may not have had any Winter addative in. How long since fuel filter changed ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Car was having the issues before UK trip, as the trip was to avoid being charged £700 for a basic service in france.
including £120 for the oil!

Land Rover annecy!!!

car had full service including, oil, fuel and air filters.

I asked them to check relay and glow plugs.
obviously they dropped a ball.

They did change all the glow plugs,

Car has premium french diesel in it.

when i spoke to my friend who owns the garage he suggested changing the relay and ETC sensor,

the engine temperature gauge works fine on the console and the outside temperature also works so not sure if its a different one.

car was bullet proof last winter even buried under 1m snow for a week it always started, now i have issues below 7c

once warm its perfect but there seems to be nothing from the glowplugs.

i have had a few fuses blow recently like the 12v cigaret and the 2nd one is still out,

the car is a 2013 model and should use part LR073555

im happy to change it if i can locate it!!!!!

john

i've never fitted a new battery and the car turns over fine and even after more than 5 mins of continues cranking

car shows no signs of poor battery performance.

Glow plug relay is located under the front wiper scuttle panel next to the ecm.

Assuming all the previous work was done to 100% standard I would invest in a new battery. It’s false economy to hang on to yours with a Alps requirement. My 2013 car got one a year ago as for what it cost it’s just peace of mind for the next 5 years or so.

My last car before the freelanders could not cope with a cold snap and blew the alternator for the sake of a battery charge when left for a few weeks so it cost both. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

How do you know the glow plugs are still not working? It’s standard not to see any light to inform they are in use . You just get a delay in starting when they cut in. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
