I'm off to Spain on Wednesday and Italy in July and again in August and I need some kind of mobile data connection for our iPads and phones so I'm thinking of getting one of those Huawei Mobile Wi-Fi gadgets then getting a PAYG Three data sim which you can use abroad.

I have one , I used it in France last year , it ate up data as I hadn't set it up to be abroad properly. If I was using it abroad again I would go into a 3 shop to get it set up . Do it now ! Your a long time dead !! |

How much data did you start with and what was your use? I was thinking of getting the 12Gb sim and using it for general browsing and what's app. I have an old 3G iPad - do you know if I could use the sim in that and tether the wife's iPad plus our two iPhones off that? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Also, if I get a 4G model, will it still work on 3G if 4G is not available? Will it use more data on 4g? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I started off with about 2gig I think, 2iphones & 2 iPads . As long as the mifi recived whatever phone company three uses abroad it converts that signal into wifi , three don't use 4g .

That's news to me, I have a 3G mifi . I don't see what difference it makes if it's 3G or 4g , the mifi converts the signal into a local wifi hotspot . Do it now ! Your a long time dead !! |

Decided I wouldn't need 4G at any time as I wont be streaming films or gaming so I bought a 'Three' PAYG sim on my way to work this morning - 12GB, valid for 12 months for £30. Popped it in my old work 3G iPad and set up a personal hotspot that allowed my phone to work over it. Its all good but I don't want to lug this heavy iPad out there (we have iPad air 2 and iPad mini 4) so I have reserved one of these http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-broadb...3-pdt.html that I will be picking up on my way home as its a bit smaller than my old iPad plus it can connect up to 10 devices to it. Decided on a sim free one as opposed one locked to 'Three' as other networks may bring out better deal Euro sims in the future plus I may be able to pop a better value local sim in. I just hope it all works when I get out there! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I used a huwai one in the house for a few weeks before my broadband suddenly got a lot better. worked fine outside but the house walls did stem the signal somewhat.

Doh! Just nipped out and bought mine. Plugged it in and linked my iPhone, iPad and PC up to it. All working fine - streamed the BBC on it. Speed acceptable - I only get 9 on my fixed line broadband so 7 aint too sad. Good enough for what I'll need - assuming its okay in Spain and Italy. We'll see!
