NSW winter/spring tour.

I have been travelling around NSW for the last 6 weeks but returned early as the rain was getting a bit tedious together with the cold nights often around 0 degrees. Everyone out there said they have never seen so much green. Nothing too difficult for the Freelancer, but the “soap” covered roads out west made things interesting. Sliding down minimal cambers from standing still, but with plenty of flat scrub it was ok.

Dual cabs are by far the most common vehicle. Only saw a handful of Land Rovers. 5 RR, one camped next to us was a 5 litre V8 Autobiography, so I clearly knew my place in the pecking order! 4 Discoveries, 3 Defenders & 1 Evoque on tour. The only other Freelander I saw was parked in Broken Hill.

5600 km, 11.6 L/100 $1.36 per litre mostly 98, 47 km/h.

Very nice Thumbs Up . I once got so much mud in the arches out near Birdsville, it set hard and the wheels wouldn't turn. It wore out 2 brand new tyres from the friction.

You seem to have Grenfell pinned out near what looks to be Cobar? I'd check that. Smile It's amazing just how big NSW is and it's nothing compared to WA.

It is a day only National Park with aboriginal rock art. Not the town Grenfell. Worth a visit.

It makes me nervous as we basically only did a circle in NSW. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Even though we had a lot of rain and mud getting into almost every crack. The most useful piece of equipment is a brush to dust off the rear end of the car that is! The second most useful piece of equipment is a small sqeegee. First thing in the morning clear the windscreen while all the bugs are saturated.

The roof platform is being chucked out, it is pointless poorly designed dead weight. I worked out that I could get a piece of aluminium 5083 alloy plate water or laser cut to half the weight & be exactly the profile I would need.

But I have decided to go down the path of 4 cross bars and will have an even lighter weight setup.

I have bought an additional 2 cross bars & am re-customing the fuel container holders so I can carry an additional 2 x 10 litres with the benefit of emptying (reducing weight) on the run. Where as the roof platform is a fixed dead weight.

The 6th wheel will be mounted in front on its own pair or cross bars (bracket almost complete), & there will be 4 x 10 litre fuel containers at the rear on their own pair of cross bars.

Testing & ironing out problems as prototype progresses:

But what about the extra beers ? Rolling with laughter and you can leave the sheilas at home to get rid of that extra weight. Rolling with laughter FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I alway try to remove dead weight from the car equivalent to at bout 56 litres of beer, which can be cooled under the seats with cold air from the air conditioner! Actually in my Peugeot 504 I built in a cool box (early 1980s) added to the after market air conditioner which worked brilliantly, which held 6 cans. It worked surprisingly well! I also installed peltier cooling as back up which also worked well but was not good for the battery, it drew about 4 amps.

These days I'm happy with a Red, & it's better at room temperature, also I'm very flexible in this aspect while camping! It also has a higher density of the important stuff!

Here you have to take your rubbish out of National Parks, but if there are bins, they have the same contents as Europe! Almost exclusively empty bottles!
