Upgrade brake discs and pads.

Hi Guys, Thought I'd just put in a couple of penny worth. I've (I should say "we" - my son did all the hard work!) just upgraded the brakes on my 2.2 Diesel with the discs and pads of the 3.2 Petrol model. It was surprisingly uncomplicated really. I watched a couple of guys do it on You Tube and simply followed along with them. The discs and pads are still "bedding" at the moment so cannot say I notice any real difference but I'm off to tour Ireland soon and hopefully should feel the benefit then.
Last job before I go is to change the rear discs and pads. Sadly the supplier sent the wrong items so they have just been returned.
Just a tip: If you are fitting new discs and pads, speak with the supplier and get them to check the actual VIN number of your vehicle with the items you are purchasing. Despite providing the full details of the vehicle and Registration number they still managed to send the wrong set. Banging Head
I have re-ordered from Brit-Part and have found them very helpful - and whats more they have sent the right items! Thumbs Up

I think the rear discs and pads were one size fits all throughout the life of the FL2 right up until the introduction of the electronic parking brake on MY13 and later cars when they were changed to a new size / pad shape.

Yes, I thought so too. Perhaps they sent discs and pads for the original Freelander which I assume were different. Whatever the reason, they didn't fit. Big Cry

ELB rear pads are different. I had the same issue with my standard discs and pads but was picking up in person so spotted it.

As your change is a car modification I assume it will need declaring to your insurer. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

Good afternoon Yorky,
Thanks for your input. Yes, I have no idea what they were for, all I know is they didn't fit. Anyway, correct ones being fitted tomorrow.
Re: your comment about notifying the insurance company. Thanks for that, I would never have thought about it. Modification to me would have meant upping the engine power or changing the body etc. Embarassed I'll have to give them a ring.
