Air intake pipe oil....

Hi all,

First let me say hello and yes another newbie.
I've had my freelander 2012 SD4 HSE for almost 6 months the and so far it's been a pleasure to drive.
I'm getting into the servicing now.
I changed the Air Filter and was removing the plastic engine cover and found a coating of oil inside the fixed section of pipe on the left hand side of the engine bay.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?
I see there is a smaller diameter pipe at the rear coming off of the air intake. Would this be the source and why does it feed?

Thanks
Ian.
