The Goverment pick the easy way of making money. However, if you look at killed, serious injury cauasation statistics, speeding over the limit is pretty low down at around 5%.

Since it only applies to ridiculously over the top speeding (over 100 on the motorway or over 50 in a 30 zone) I do not think it will bother many of us. More of a concern is being summonsed for doing 33 for a short time in a 30 zone. Silver 2009 HSE |

This is an interesting example as Glenn, if a customer was to have come into a garage of old complaining the speedo was not accurate the stock answer was a 10% tolerance was allowable and it's been my firm view I would us that in my defence if needed. Mine certainly reads high. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current |

more and more councils/police forces/insurance companies are now enforcing 0% tolerance on speeding. So 30mph = 30mph regardless of accuracy of a cars speedo.

I was told over the weekend that if you have a digital speedo display then if you go to France it is a legal requirement to change it to read kilometers. Anyone else heard this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

well that was why older vehicles with analogue dials showed MPH and KPH. But with digital it will only show either/or unless it is switched over manually.

I doesn't make a h'porth of difference Bob. Most police forces use the ACPO guidelines for speeding which suggests prosecuting at 10% + 2 mph. They have already built in a tolerance for low reading speedos .A few years back they used to prosecute when you exceeded 10% +2 so they have clawed 1 mph back which no doubt gets them a few more £100 speed awareness course fees Having said that if they want to prosecute at 31 they can. It's the emergence of 20mph everywhere around here that cheeses me off. You have to concentrate on the dial so hard (as a dip in the road can add 2mph ) that you aren't looking where you are going ! 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership 2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles .
