Fuel gauge fault and break down, Help needed!

Need some advice if possible as I know many have suffered similar issues!

My 2008 TD4 has had the usual fuel gauge issue, gets to quarter of a tank on the gauge then drops to empty, fill the tank to the max and gauge only shows half a tank. Went into Land Rover two weeks ago and they had the tank out and did the sender unit wire repair as per the LR service notice. Seem to fix the issue as I filled it up and the gauge seemed to work.

A few days later when I got down to quarter of a tank again I started getting starting issues. Engine cranks but does not fire, eventually started and then I watched the fuel gauge drop to empty immediately . Filled it back up and again only shows half full. Disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, reconnected and gauge went to full!

Today after doing about 370 miles on the tank the gauge shoes quarter of a tank and all of a sudden I got restricted power mode followed by HDC fault and the engine cut out. No fuel in the lines in the engine. I put two cans of fuel in on the roadsid but it won't start. Had to get recovered!

I'm at a loss what to do next, any ideas greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

You will need to bleed the fuel system to restart it.

You take it back and get them to do it correctly at their expense as they seem to have fluffed the original job. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I'm going to get the system bled in the morning and hope that gets it going. I have it booked back in to Land Rover next Tuesday and will be getting them to sort it as the wiring fix came with a two year warranty.

It has already had a new transfer pump in the tank so maybe I should get the other sender unit replaced to be on the safe side??
