United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Finally had mine fitted today...after requesting them since February !!

Over the last two weeks the dealer has kept on telling me that they had not been released by Landrover yet. I told them to take a look on Ebay and at Freel2.com - Amazingly the next day they were in stock at the dealer !!

Quoted me 30 mins labour and said that they were a 'fit while you wait' accessory. I waited just over three hours!! The service manager was very apologetic and said that they were the first their technicians had seen or fitted and that they had some difficulty with the cross bar at the rear - wrong bolt supplied by LR or something.

Charged me £186 rails + £50 fitting + VAT which I though was reasonable.

Anyways they are on now and I'm very pleased with them, they seem very solid and while the wind noise is noticable at +60MPH its nothing I wouldn't have expected - I'm now off to get a Kamei roofbox.

Pics of the rails are in the gallery - i'll post a pic of the roof box as well when I get it.

Had mine delivered too. I must say that after installing them myself, I must admit that 50 quid is not much to charge! However the instructions are excellent and the screws etc were all ok, at least in my pack. You do however have to cut a wider hole on the roof plastic rails (the ones already on the vehicle) and do some sealing after you unscrew the front roof rails screw and screw another in its place which holds the front part. There is wind noise sometimes, but the whole assembly is very robust. I'll try to put on some photos, as soon as I can. I think the whole assembly just adds to the looks of our LR2 and build quality is great.

Saw a new shape 07 registration Honda CR-V parked the other day, and guess what- it had some cross bars fitted. Unlike the Landrover, it does not need roof rails, the cross bars fit straight down into the roof. Obviously like that from the design stage, so why couldn't Landrover do the same, and make life a bit simpler (and cheaper) for us. I wasn't best pleased to see that, as Mr honda can now go off on his holidays with his bikes or roofbox etc, and I can't.

That's how they work on the D3, the cross bars fir straight to the roof tracks. Personally, I prefer roof rails from an aesthetics and practical point of view (it gives you the flexibility as to where you place the bars). OK, it's an extra cost, but I also had to pay for my old D3 S to have the roof tracks fitted.

OK, so Mr Honda may be able to go off on his holidays with his bikes and roofbox, but he can't go half the places you can Very Happy

Yes your'e right there, anyway the FL is much better to look at (in my opinion) than the Honda, just wish Landrover had pulled its finger out and offered a complete package from day 1, after all they were at the Motor Show this time last year. Still, off down to Cornwall next week, may try to find an empty beach one evening, I can think of a couple of places, as I havent tried out the "sand" setting yet.

Tried to order my roof rails here in Germany, I was told they are not available yet, rang Landrover customer services, the guy at the call centre confirmed that they were not available. I asked to speak to Landrover parts, and the chap there confirmed that the rails are available, and that there is a message on the dealers bulletin board.

I rang the German dealer, who confirmed that they have been released, and accepted my order, price €326ordered.

Should be here in 5 days.

I now have the Censored things fitted too Very Happy (easy on the emotions) They seem quiet - there is always noise when the roof is fully open. I was told by LR customer services that part of the wait was because of noise issues. The rails are now fitted with this extra cross bar thingy which sits lower than the cross bars - like an aerofoil I suppose to combat the problem. It seems to work but I am not keen on the looks of it. Without the cross bars it looks like there is something missing in the front... Oh well at least I can go away now (as soon as I find another fixing kit for the roof box as the cross bars are too wide for mine!
