Auto Gearbox nudge when 'drive' selected

Hi there,
Has anyone else noticed a slight nudging/ snatching on an auto when drive is selected? This only started yesterday when I was in a queue waiting to turn right at traffic lights. I thought that the car behind me had slightly hit my bumper as it felt like my car was nudged forward slightly. There doesn't appear to be any transmission fluid leaks from what I can tell. Any ideas anybody? Thanks.

Something not quite right there. When I select drive (with foot on brake) there is no movement at all. Once selected I can take my foot off the brake and the car remains stationary until I touch the accelerator. How is your tickover speed, I had another auto (Jaguar) that would clonk as it went into drive if the tickover speed was set even slightly too high. Just a thought. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Hi bbrap,
My car doesn't move at all when I select drive ( until I take foot off brake and accelerate away ) it just feels like transmission snatch and the feeling that the car has been slightly bumped from behind. Idle revs are ok and no problem with reverse on selection. Friend at work had a recent BMW 5 series auto that did a similar thing. Dealer told him that the software needed updating - could mine need a similar rectification? Don't fancy paying a lot for software updates if the problem is not resolved!
Thanks. Very Happy

Not sure about software update. If it has only just started to happen I don't see how it could be fixed by an update and I would have expected there to be lots of instances documented on here if that was the case. I'd be wary of coughing up in the hope it may cure it. Sorry, no other ideas on cause but if it were mine my 1st point of call would be to talk to an LR service centre and see if they have any ideas (especially if it is still in warranty). FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Thanks - I will pop into the LR service centre and see what they suggest. Unfortunately, the vehicle is just out of warranty - typical!! Sad

if it's been dealer serviced I'm sure landrover will show some goodwill re any repairs required.

Thanks, I will try. Purchased and serviced by LR dealership. Still have a 'live' service plan but jobs like this are probably not included. Just scheduled servicing. I will see what they say. Thanks

I sometimes get this when the engine/gearbox is cold soon after startup. Putting my foot on the brake a bit harder seems to stop it. It doesn't happen when up to working temperature.

Been to LR dealer service centre. They checked also said that it might need a software update. Funnily enough, the problem seems to have gone away now - well at least for the moment anyway! They said that they will sort it at next service in 2 Months as not requiring any urgent attention.

My 2014 has just had this looked at in dealer. Mine does this mainly when cold and if on a slight slope. The dealer has previously updated the software on mine which did not make a difference. Dealer did explain to me how the car takes up gear and the mechanical reasons for getting a nudge but my eyes glazed over.

I did get the accelerator pedal replaced though as it was sticking. This could be linked to the gearbox jolt as in sending incorrect pedal positions but I have not had the chance to try it yet, (wife's car). I was also getting kangaroo type effect when lifting off the throttle as the pedal did not come up with my foot.

Let us know how you get on as I've seen the gearbox jolt mentioned many times.

Thanks for the info. I will post again after it has been for service and first MOT. They said that they would check it out then.

Experienced similar issues with mine when I'd first bought it. Put it down to 'me' but all resolved by way of a software update; touch wood, no issues since

Having the same random nudges, any luck? Can it be just due to software?

Mine is a 2015 one.

No, it's a hardware issue also.
The software just masks the issue...
