I don't think aquatic mammals should drive cars. Well not on porpoise. ![]() |

Did I read somewhere that you can change the FL2 headlamp beams for continental driving just by pulling a lever somewhere? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

You can with xenon headlights. Not a simple process as you have to remove the rear cover to the headlight to access the switch and that usually involves removing the headlight, although I did manage to do it once without. |

Just got back on the first trip in the dark and noticed that one of my headlamps is not working, it doesn't light up on dipped or main beam. I haven't time to take it apart at the moment but how do I know if I have Halogen or Xenon headlights? Its a 2014 SD4 XS auto Does the picture below help identify ? perhaps the HAL means halogen?

Yes HAL means halogen. One bulb HB3 does both dip and full beam |

Spot on LR NUT, thanks. Just got it apart and ordered a couple from Eurocarparts who (surprise surprise) happen to have a sale on as usual. Free delivery too if order is over £10. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If you have a MY13 or later and Halogen headlamps, there is no need to alter anything for continental driving as it has a 'flat beam'. |

Yes my handbook says that you don't need to do anything when you drive abroad. However, I was talking to a guy recently who said that when he came off a ferry (can't recall which port) the French police were examining all British cars to see if they had headlamp deflectors. I wouldn't want to get in a discussion starting with c'est n'est pas nécessaire d'utiliser des déflecteurs de phares sur cette voiture...... 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Quite agree, I had a look at Topix and if you select French language you can download the French version of the manual. Next time I go abroad I will locate and print the appropriate page and put it in my manual so at least I can show something that looks semi official in the correct language. |
