Canadian Rail trip

I have always fancied going on one of the Canadian rail trips which can be quite spectacular I understand. I have been on to a specialist travel company that will put together a package for you (Audley - that I have used in the past) with an initial enquiry but they have sent a load of options which have overwhelmed us so I was wondering if anyone on the forum had done anything like this and any ideas/recommendations?

England 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Loire Blue

We did a fly drive from Calgary to Vancouver (via, kananaskis, lake louise, Jasper, Vancouver island etc etc), At the same time our neighbours did pretty much the same trip but going on the Rockymountaineer train. We met in a pub in Victoria on vancouver island, we did not know they were going, and they did not know we were either, bit of a shock being in the same pub at the same time thousands of miles from home when we live 100 yards apart. Anyhow, we were chatting about the trip and whilst the train bit was good it was extremely expensive. The price they paid for the two of them was more than we did for four of us (2 adults 2 teenagers) using 4 & 5 star hotels. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Only done a long train trip down under. First leg Sydney to Adelaide in a sleeper then second leg to Alice Springs sitting. The sitting was far cheaper but utterly exhausting. A sleeper costs the earth. We did not see much as a lot of it was overnight, each night. Return was by plane!

If you are going by train you should go for the experience of the train trip & sleeper but it will cost an arm & a leg.

A joke for The Ghan. Driver when is the train going to arrive as I'm going to have a baby. You should not have got on the train pregnant. But I was not pregnant when I got on the train! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

United Kingdom

Back in 2012 we were going to travel on the rocky. But very expensive, so we decided to do a drive round pre booking hotels before we left.
Glad we did you can see a lot more and stop off when you want to. 1000 mies and 3 weeks of pure heaven.
Will be going again but missing a few places and staying longer in others.
Its the only way to do it.
Have fun
