Sounds weird I know but its true (I did my own servicing and had to double check). The manual LT77 gearbox had ATF in it as recommended by JLR.

And if I remember corrrectly the R380 manual gearbox in Discovery and Defender used 10w40 engine oil?

Until MTF94 was developed, that then became the go to MTF for all manual cars, until FL2/D3 |

MTF94, yes thanks for that Mikey. I had LT77 and R380 equipped Discos in the past, ATF was an alternative fluid. I was incredulous when I saw it. But then I learned more about the LT77 and the cynical disregard of JRA for it's suffering customers.

Nice write up Bob, glad it all went well, looking at doing mine some time this year, and I will be looking to flush it through like you have, will make sure I have a new "O" ring thanks for the tip.
