The engine needs to be at idle when you remove the Torx bolt and the vehicle needs to be level.

If you got 0.8 Liters out I suspect that one of these conditions was not met.

When I replaced mine I used a side lift to get the most fluid out that I could and I got out about 3.6 liters

So it seems that you have an overfilling situation.

Yes, the car was level. I worked my way through the gears while waiting for the temp to get to 60C. And that is the reason why I now simply measure how much drained and replace same amount (at same temperature).

If the gearbox was overfilled then it would have initially been overfilled at the factory. Nobody touched the gearbox from new but me, and I measured the exact amount that I drained the first time. I've been repeating this exact process for the last 4 years and 70,000km (every 10,000km).

Did you measure how much drained when you did it first time? MY10 TD4 SE Auto

I drained about 3 liters and replaced about 3.5.
When checking level at about 60 deg. C, about 0.5 have drained.
So around 3 liters per change...

Excellent reports guys! My 2008 HSE Auto has done 86k looks as if i require to change oil ASAP!

Have just done mine for the second time at 88,850 miles. Just one drain & refill. This time using Smith & Allan 3309. Did it on my driveway, which has a slight slope. Just ran the front wheels half way up a pair of ramps until level. Plenty of space to drop the engine cover plate and get at the drain plugs.
Gearchange already feels smoother. 👍

My 2012 FL2 has now 64000 miles I'm not sure if I should for the dump and fill method or as Alex says, do a drain each 10 000 km ...

Yes, that would be a good prophylactic procedure for your transmission. If the fluid has never been changed, do measure exactly (don't just eyeball it) how much fluid is drained. I have a sneaky suspicion that we're putting back less than comes out.

The transmission does have a level measure. But it only measures one point, not a range. And I think it measures either a midpoint or (more likely) the lowest (minimum) point/volume of fluid. This point was raised on the Russian forum but went without an answer. MY10 TD4 SE Auto

And I'm guessing more ATF would have drained had the vehicle been level. MY10 TD4 SE Auto

Just going through the equivalent topic on the Russian LR forum and most people reporting draining and putting back just under 4L of ATF per change.

Does anyone know the part number for the integrated level plug (or entire drain plug set)?

I damaged the head of the level plug when I first removed it and dare not try it again until I've got a replacement on hand.
