Towbar

Hi Dan

Seen on your ebay thing your doing a towbar for £99, would i be ok to fit this with out peeing off the rear parking sensors or will it just set the sensors off? I dont want it for towing so dont really need the elrctrics if i dont have to. Will just be on to stop people hitting the bumper when they park behind me Laughing mines an 07xs auto if that makes a diffrence

Cheers budy

mine doesn't upset the reverse sensors. Common sense isn't very common.

This is a very very common question! I've never heard of a LR with a towbar fitted that upsets the genuine rear park aid. These machines are made to tow Thumbs Up

I can inderstand is someone had a Bugatti and wanted to fit a custom made towbar and asked this question Laughing MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

A bike rack and bikes on s tow bar without a override of the reversing sensors may be fun.

I like to have my tow bar protecting my ass. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

if you don't have the electrics then the tow bar/ball will still be fine BUT if you put something like a bike rack with bikes on then it will set the beeper off, having said that if you had a bike on you would need the electrics for light/number plate bar.
so in short as long as you never use the tow bar you will be ok. Common sense isn't very common.

Let's put the myths to bed.
1. There is no way a standard tow bar (fixed or detachable) itself will interfere with standard fitted sensors.
2. If the tow bar is in use (i.e. With properly fitted trailer electrics connected) the sensors are disconnected.
The only situation when they would still sound is if you have cheap by-pass relay electrics which do not disconnect the sensors. In that case, with a load on the back (bikes or trailer) the sensors WILL sound when you select reverse. You can then press the dash button to silence them.(IME, with SE & HSE models.)

he did say that he's not towing so doesn't need the electrics. Common sense isn't very common.

Is there a Insurance / Legal aspect here I wonder ?

Read recently (someone may say rubbish) that tow electrics are now part of a MOT test, as in fitted they must also work. So could the MOT bod say you have a tow bar, electrics not fitted for me to test so its a fail ? Food for thought.

I think you need to declare a Tow Bar to insurance companies to be 100% correct in an application for insurance. Most of us will fail to remember. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
